I started meditating over ten years ago to save my sanity and restore my health. I have continued to practice for 10 – 40 minutes in the morning — and to look for moments of mindfulness throughout each day — because I have found it is the best way to remind myself that I can choose to live an authentic, connected and joyfully-creative life.

If you would like to learn a few easy and powerful mindfulness practices — and/or you enjoy guided group meditations — you are invited to join me at one or both of these monthly offerings…

1st Tuesdays at 11:45 am at Unity Church off Stratford Rd at 108 Hewes St.(directions below)

Join me from 11:45 – 1:00 pm at Unity for this lunch-time event which includes music, gentle movement, and a guided meditation journey. At 1:00 pm we will move to Unity’s kitchen table for informal sharing, laughter and lunch (please bring your own bagged lunch).

All are welcome including those new to working with the present moment and experienced meditators. There is no fee for the program but heart donations are appropriate and appreciated and will be shared with Unity.

While this is not a religious gathering we deeply appreciate that Reverend Elizabeth Forrest hosts us each month in Unity’s beautiful, light-filled space.

WHY MEDITATE?

fragile flower photo by Cheryl Schirillo JohnsonMore and more research on mindfulness and meditation is proving that the ability to slow down and “tune in,” for even three minutes, ignites creativity, interrupts the “flight or fight” response, and releases a cascade of feel-good endorphins that allow the body to begin healing itself instantly. Stress management, improved sleep, increased clarity and confidence about your best, next steps, and achieving a new level of creativity and innovation in your professional and personal life are also common benefits.

Directions to Unity Church:

Unity is located on Stratford Rd., 1.2 miles west from the intersection of Hanes Mall Blvd. From Stratford Rd., turn onto Hewes St. which runs between the church and a nursery/greenhouse. The address is: 108 Hewes Street, Winston-Salem, NC 27103

You can drop in for $20 or get discounts through Flywheel or Swerve if you sign up in advance via Eventbrite.

For this session I will begin by leading a 15-minute guided meditation and then teach you simple, 3-minute mindfulness techniques you can practice during your day. There will also be time for some “serious fun” and networking.

All are welcome including those new to working with the present moment and experienced meditators. We will be sitting in chairs for this practice.

If you’re curious to know more about me and why I started meditating check out my bio and story below.

lion's mouth

I began my mostly-daily mediation practice 11 years ago when I launched my first start-up. My stress levels were off the chart and I was in critical need of a practice that would allow me to be at the top of my game when I was pitching investors and getting to the finals in business plan competitions throughout the southeast. By incorporating mindfulness into my day, I found I could more fully enjoy the wild ride I was on and be more present and peaceful when interacting with my family and co-workers.

My bio:

Cheryl Schirillo is a community innovator, conduit and connector.  She is President/CEO of the marketing company Bridges Connecting Communities, Inc. and Founder of the Imagination Installations Project.  Cheryl has worked with a wide-range of mindfulness, meditation and nature practices for over a decade. Her Mindfulness Consulting Practice was inspired by Otto Scharmer, Senior Lecturer at Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Sloan School of Management, and Co-Founder of the Presencing Institute and U.Lab. For the past two years Cheryl has studied with Otto and a local group of community innovators participating in U.Lab, a global movement to build a new economy by co-sensing and co-creating with the emerging future.
